Mari DeBorde and Colston Copeland

Congratulating our February Members of the Month, Mari DeBorde and Colston Copeland

Warriors, join us in congratulating our February Members of the Month, Mari DeBorde and Colston Copeland! We asked them to share a little bit about their time here at Mighty Warrior and we hope you enjoy their answers as much as we did!

What’s been your proudest moment at Mighty Warrior?

Mari – Finally listening to my sister-in-law and joining this amazing family. To be honest this whole experience has been my proudest moment from taking the first step by going to the gym to seeing the progress from where I started to where I am now. I never thought I would be able to do some of the lifts and movements I do now and each time I PR or just do the movement I feel like a badass.

Colston – This question is difficult to answer with just one moment. On a personal level, the first time I actually did a bar muscle up was exciting. After a couple years of trying and tearing my bicep trying, finally landing one felt pretty dang good.

I would also add that being at the gym for almost four years, I am extremely proud of the gym itself. We have moved multiple times. We have seen a change in leadership and we have seen folks come and go but the level of community and commitment we have cannot be beat. I am proud of all of us.

What’s your favorite workout?

Mari – Oh man I don’t really have a favorite workout but, I do like Deadlifts and Back squats. I also enjoy each workout because it pushes me to be better even when there are burpees included.

Colston – I cannot say I have a favorite workout, but I do like leg day so anytime we squat, I enjoy that.  Nancy is also one WOD that I never shy away from… even if I ain’t that fast.

What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

Mari – JUST DO IT! First, I would offer to go with them and tell them how awesome this place is and the amazing people that workout there. Also, how it may be a little scary at first but not to worry because we will all be there to support and help.

Colston – Fight to be healthy because you and those you love are worth it. CrossFit is a wonderful supportive community to help you get healthy and just like any journey, you don’t make it to the finish line without taking the first step… then another… and then another.  If your focus is on getting healthy then it will help you keep eyes locked on that goal and not on the things you can or cannot do. Pursue being healthy and the CrossFit stuff will come.

What’s a fun fact about you that most Warriors might not know?

Mari – I really enjoy watching scary movies in the dark by myself.

Colston – Well, I am from Texas and I miss it. I am also a pastor at NorthRidge Church.  Now that I have been honest, please don’t hold either of those against me.

What’s the next goal you’re looking to achieve?

Mari – To better my movements and to focus more on the lifts that I struggle with the most. Especially when it comes to getting under the bar.

Colston – My next goal is to get a few more friends into the gym so they can pursue being healthy for themselves and their families.
